Fashion Chat || Lilly Pulitzer For Target



Back in January Target announced their newest collaboration would be with Lilly Pulitzer... lovely collection with a bit of ugly feedback.. here's the deal. 

For those who don't know, Lilly Pulitzer is known for being a prominent socialite who was an heiress to an oil fortune and married into a publishing fortune. Alone and bored in her Palm Beach home, she decided to open a fruit juice stand. Long story short to be discreet about the juice stains that would often get on her clothing, she created her first dress made of vibrant colors and prints (and out of kitchen curtains). People started asking where she got her digs from and that pretty much started her being a fashion designer. She created vibrantly colorful shift dresses that defined preppy style in the '50s and '60s.  

Fashion mavens are allegedly PISSED  about this one. Why? This is the first designer to collaborate with Target that has a legacy dating back 50 plus years. They feel the late Mrs Lilly Pulitzer (She passed away in 2013) would be rolling in her grave. Granted Target has featured amazing designers. They have all been newcomers which include Jason Wu who hit the fashion scene in 2006 (debuted 2012). Peter Pilloto was only seven years old as a brand when he donned his Target line in 2014. And more recently Joseph Altuzarra who premiered in May 2014, had only been in business since 2008. For the lack of a better term some people feel these designers don't have the pedigree of the late Lilly Pulitzer. They are afraid the brand may lose it's "exclusivity" once the collection has run it's course. 

I can see where this would be upsetting to loyal Pulitzer fans. However,  I love the idea that Target makes fashion available to all. And it gives people exposure to new designers that are out of the ordinary. Here are some of my favs

The brand's collaboration with Target is available online now and is scheduled to hit store 4/19/15. It will include 250 pieces of apparel, accessories, beauty, and home decor, and range from $2 to $150 (with nearly 200 items under $30). Also, for the first time, this collaboration will include plus sizes.

  3. People always find a way to complain about anything. I remember the fuss over the Isabel Marant x H&M collection. Some wanted to stop supporting the brand because anybody would be able to wear Isabel Marant. A mess!

  5. Girl I remember that... but what people fail to realize is that the brand is making more money and expanding. Do you honestly think they care how? If they did they wouldn't agree to the collaboration.
