She's a mother, she's an author, and she is personal friend of mine. I would like to introduce you all to Miss Chase Sidora. Quick background on how her and I met. Via social media we had many friends in common and one day out of no where she tweeted me (I don't remember what) but we were cool ever since. She has always been a positive person who I can go to to vent to about personal problems and we even have a YouTube show together -here- (not to fret it WILL be coming back). She is positive, kind, fashionable, an AMAZING writer, and just more of what this world needs. I got a chance to run into her to to ask her a few questions..
Who are you?
I am Chase Sidora
I know what you do, but in your words.. what do you do?
I create. That pretty much goes across the board, if I feel there is something I want that I don’t feel is out there, I create it myself. The majority of what I create is books but I dabble in other things as well.
What gives you inspiration to write?
My biggest inspiration to write is that it keeps me connected to my mother. She was a writer, though she wrote more poetry than anything else (and I don’t dabble in poetry much), and that connection to her helps keep me going. I feel like it’s a trait that God gave her that she passed down to me.
What are your top three favorite books?
This varies because I try to make sure I’m constantly reading something. But right now my three favorite I would have to say… The Rules of Life by Richard Templar (changed my outlook on life), Become a Better You by Joel Osteen, and Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
How important is education/ college to you?
I think people should make in effort to learn something new every day. Whether it be a new word, a new way to solve a problem, etc. College on the other hand I don’t think is as important. I don’t think education and college necessarily go hand-in-hand. I think college is more important in regards to the social experience more than the educational experience.
Self publishing?.. What made you decide to do it, and what are the pros and cons?
I decided to self publish because going through a big publishing house is really tough process where you leave the fate of your story is in someone else’s hands and I always prefer to cut out the middle man if necessary. So when I found out I could get publish my work myself, I was all for it. It also give me creative control. Which is a real big pro for me because only I know exactly what I’m thinking with a piece or how my characters move and function in my head. The biggest con to self- publishing is you are your marketing and publicity team. So it’s up to you to find creative ways to move units and get yourself out there.
What or who inspires you fashion wise?
I'm inspired by prints and colors. I like clothing that makes you feel good when you look at it.
When it comes to your fashion vintage or new age?
I prefer vintage. It gives you more of a sense of separation from what’s trendy or in the moment.
Least favorite fashion trend?
Would have to be a tie between zebra print (Ive never met a zebra print that didn’t look tacky) and men wearing women styled clothing (e.i. skin tight straight/skinny leg jeans, blouses, etc.)
When it comes to fashion are you more chic or all out?
It really just depends on how I’m feeling. One day I can be really subtle then next I’ll look like I’m going to a gala. But it tends to be more on the chic side.
If you could name your style what would it be called?
Three facts about you
- I’ve been writing since I was 11…I’m 29
- I studied Fashion Design & Merchandising at Academy of Arts University
- I had a period of time where I didn't allow anyone to read my writing that lasted for 10 years.
What books have you written? And how can we get them?
I have currently written 4 books. 2 fiction:Between Love and Lust and Secrets & Lies. And 2 non fiction: Letters To My Younger Self and Don’t Be Bitter. Always Be Better: 365 Quotes That’ll Change Your Life.
You can get all of my books on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com...
I loved secrets and lies... where the hell did all that come from!?! lol
I honestly don’t even remember. Secrets… has been years in the making. It started as a fan fiction story but the characters grew beyond that and started telling me their story and it ended up becoming what it is today.
For all the young authors out there what advice do you give?
Write every day and really study your craft. If you want to be an author take it seriously and read up on how to improve your work. That’s one of the most important things in writing that I think is most neglected. People just put a bunch of words on paper and getting it published and that’s it. There are a lot of different pieces to creating a book and even more in creating a great story. From editing to formatting to character development and description. So I would say write something every day, it’ll help you develop your voice and style of writing and hone your craft.
