Wednesdays are one my favorite days of the week. For one its always a half day at work for me and two its 50% off days at the Salvation Army Thrift Store. Third reason is I love First Wednesday because of a monthly event that's held downtown called Art Walk. Art Walk "is held the first Wednesday of each month from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. -- rain or shine -- Art Walk spans a 15-block radius within the Downtown core. With 30 to 40 galleries, museums, cultural venues, restaurants, bars and businesses participating each month and dozens of artists in the open-air Hemming Plaza, Art Walk is the ultimate opportunity to savor and support Jacksonville's deep pool of creative talent."
Here's my day (after work) this past Wednesday..

Dinner and live band at Burrito Gallery located at 21 e Adams St
A part of this main exhibition at MOCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art)..Artist Sarah Emerson. SO DOPE. This display is in the stairwell is STORIES HIGH. I kid you not. It changes from month to month.
Being silly in a pissy bathroom with a dirty mirror lol..
Ended the night kicking back at Underbelly located at 113 E bay St
Art Walk is a several block display of people meeting, displaying art and hand crafted designs, music, food, and God knows what else. You never know what or who you will see there. It enjoy it because it is a fusion of culture and races.
My personal favorite this month was the MOCA (Museum Of Contemporary Art), this month on the second floor they have an "American" gallery. It's a mass exhibition of American Photography.. my personal favorite was a display of about 30 or so black and white prints.. it depicts a photographer's (I can't remember the name to save my life) point of view during the 70s. It was raw and real shows naked people, people doing heroine, military shots, letter saying fuck the police, amongst many other things. I wish I could've taken pictures.. but I ain't going to jail for you all lol. Matter of fact check it out for yourself visit the website http://www.mocajacksonville.org/ or just go. They are located 333 N Laura St.
To my surprise many Jacksonville natives have never heard of Art Walk.. its really a shame. If you want to feel like you are not in this city for a few hours and be enlightened on new things this is definitely something I would recommend one check out.
